Abdominal and Digestive cancers.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">In <em>2009<\/em>, he was awarded a <strong>MOH scholarship <\/strong>and completed a <em>Surgical Oncology Fellowship<\/em> in <em>Canada<\/em>, becoming one of the few surgeons in Singapore with this recognition. (defect)<\/em> in the tissue surrounding it.<\/p><p>The common types of hernia that occur in patients generally result from a <em>weakening in the musculature<\/em> around the abdomen, leading to protrusion of internal viscera such as the <strong>intestine<\/strong>, <strong>omental fat<\/strong> or <strong>bladder<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Hernias will eventually require surgical repair as they generally <em>do not resolve on their own.<\/em> In severe cases, <strong>hernias can become a medical emergency<\/strong> if they become <em>incarcerated<\/em> or felt intermittently (on and off) around the hernia. This is due to the internal viscera \u2018sliding\u2019 in and out of the defect.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The most common symptom of a hernia is a bulge or lump in the affected area<\/strong>. In the case of an inguinal hernia, you may notice the hernia bump on either side of your pubic bone. You're more likely to feel your hernia through touch when you're standing up or bending down<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Small hernias can progress and evolve into large hernias with increasing symptoms<\/strong>. Severe symptoms occur when the internal viscera that protrudes through remains stuck and unable to return to its original position:<\/p>\n\n<p>If a loop of intestine is entrapped, you may experience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<li> Vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Constipation<\/li>\n<li>Or Abdominal Distension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>If medical attention is not sought quickly, that loop of bowel loses its blood supply and becomes gangrenous (dead). <strong>Such a situation is life-threatening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Unfortunately, this is a frequent situation amongst some patients who have
